'Learn how to capture the world of dance, from someone who's at the heart of it'
I am now offering a range of brand new workshops for people who would like to try dance photography for the very first time, or are already photographing dancers and would like to develop their skills & technique further. I will also be offering mini courses for dance mums and dads on how to improve their iPhone photography and unlock the true potential of your phones built in camera.
I have over 5 years experience of shooting dance and have worked with over 400 different dancers in this time. I have also been commissioned by some of the most popular dance brands and have undertaken work for schools, colleges and teachers. Prior to being a full time dance photographer, I was a professional wedding photographer for over 10 years and have worked for some of the largest digital media brands across the globe.
Photography experience aside, it is my communication, attention to detail and people skills that will make your time with me a great investment. My end goal is to equip you with the basics for taking your dance photography further and to leave feeling with a sense of achievement.
The courses will take place both on location and in a studio environment and will be tailored to individual needs and level of experience. Workshop sizes will be no more than 6 in total, this is so that I can give my time, focus and energy to each individual on the day.
Some of my workshops will be 'one off' training days to give you the basics. Other workshops will be part of a series that you can join so that you can gain a more in-depth knowledge over time.
There are many aspects to consider when photographing a dancer. Lighting, composition, framing and catching them 'at their perfect moment' are just a few.
 Versatility is key
I try to stay as original and unique as possible and have shot concepts and styles that have never been done before. I always encourage my dancers to be creative, step out of their comfort zone and unleash their inner spark.
Timing is critical
A dancer must be captured at their right moment and your goal is to always show them at their absolute best moment.
Lighting is king
It can be your best friend, or your worst enemy. Choosing the right time of day to shoot can make or break your pictures and this is why many of my photoshoots take place early morning, late evening or even through the night. I rarely shoot during the midday.
Its a Partnership
The moment you meet your dancer, trust must be established.  If it's their first photoshoot, you need to gain their confidence in seconds and do what you can to put them at ease. Focus on their strengths first and then help them improve their weaknesses. Getting the absolute best from my dancers on a shoot, is always my top priority.
Delivering the end result
Photographing your dancer is only the beginning. Getting home, downloading the pictures and sorting through what worked and what didn't is the next step. Editing your dancers images is the icing on the cake and I always try to minimise editing by getting things right when taking the shot. The better your original picture is, the less time you will spend with editing.
I will be offering workshops for editing pictures using both professional and easy to use software in the future.

Sunday 22nd October
Beginners Photography Workshop, Level 1
Regents Park, London
Join me for my first workshop at Regents Park, London and experience this location in all it's golden wonder at the turn of Autumn.
Who is a Level 1 Workshop for?
My Level 1 workshops are aimed at photographers who have little or no experience with photographing dancers or for those who have experience but want to improve their dance photography further.
What will I get from a Level 1 Workshop?
An insight into the basics of dance photography with the opportunity to photograph dancers in a range of different styles, including, Classical Ballet, Contemporary & Modern.
You will learn what camera settings to use, how to work with available light, how to effectively communicate with your dancers and the importance of framing and composition.
How Long does the Workshop last and what time does it start?
The Level 1 Workshop lasts for approx 2.5 hours with a 15 minute break at the halfway point. For best results with lighting and to avoid crowds, the start time will be 8am.
What type of camera do I need to bring with me?
You must have a DSLR, or Mirrorless camera with a manual mode option and a fixed or zoom lens with an aperture of at least F5.6
What happens if it rains or the weather is really bad?
The workshop will go ahead unless there is torrential downpour or adverse weather conditions that will affect my ability to complete your workshop.
How many photographers will be on the workshop and will I receive 1 to 1 guidance?
My workshops will never exceed more than 3 people. This is to ensure that I can spread my time between all photographers and offer individual quality time. Elements of the workshop will be group based learning, as well as individual.
Who will the dancers be and can I keep the pictures I take?
The dancers you will photograph will all have previous experience with photoshoots and will be there to make your experience as amazing as possible. Dancers who are under the age of 18, will be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times and you will not be allowed to photograph them without someone else present. The photographs you capture on your workshop, are yours to keep. However, if you post any to social media, you must tag and credit the dancers you work with.
How much does the Workshop cost and how do I make a booking?
You are paying a fee that reflects my time as a professional dance photographer and for the experience, tips and insights I can pass to you on the day. Y
My Level 1 Workshop fee is at an introductory rate of £200pp and a non refundable £50 deposit is required to make a booking.
